My Life Not Yours

The establishment of ghettos marked the end of freedom of movement for Jews.  Write about what freedom means to you in your life and what you think it would mean to lose it

What does freedom mean to me? Freedom means to me that I can go wherever I want and do whatever I want.  Freedom also means to have privacy in your own home.  Freedom also means to me that you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Also it means that you can go to school wherever or live wherever. In the ghettos, the Nazis took away the Jews’ freedom by closing them off in one little part in a city.  They also gave them an apartment with another family living there. They also used to go in their house and scare them like shooting them or like beating them up. And they killed people if they didn’t follow orders, like when the Nazis threw the handicapped man off the balcony in “The Pianist”. That is what freedom means to me and I know for a fact others in my community.

  1. I really agree with you because i think that was harsh when the man was threw off of the balcony because he couldn't stand

  2. More often than not there would be more than one other family living in the same place as you. I can't imagine how bad it was to share a place with one other family. It must have been really bad living in an apartment with more than one more family.

  3. I agree with you. Freedom is something that everyone needs. It's why teens rebel against their parents. It's why there are marches and protests. Freedom is that thing everyone wants and sometimes needs. Having that taken away from you is like being locked up never seeing the light, at least that's how it would be for me. My freedom is listening to my music and blasting it. Freedom is doing what makes you happy without anyone questioning you or telling you you can't do it. Freedom to me is being and expressing who you are. I can't imagine being someone in that time period. Knowing myself, I would have rebelled, but how it was then, I would have been shot where I stood.
